• Descendants of Alexander Ennes The first Ennes known to have come to the new world, was a Scotsman captured by Oliver Cromwell in the Battle of Dunbar in 1650 along with 10,000 others. Alexander, only 18 years old at the time, was one of 400 selected from that group in 1651 to be sold as indentured servants to work in the Lynn Iron Works near Boston. He was released seven years later. Town records for the colony of Plymouth record that Alexander and his wife, Catherine, were later placed in stocks and Catherine was made to wear the letter B on her arm for blasphemy.
